QLD Native animal keeping licence

As of August 2020, all people who reside in Queensland wishing to purchase any species of tarantula will require a Native animal keeping licence. There are three licence options available, depending on how many animals you wish to keep, and whether you intend to breed and sell tarantulas. You can find more information on each option here: https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/wildlife-permits/permit-types/wildlife-licence/native-animal/licence-options Tarantulas are classified as Class 1 animals.

To apply for a licence, go to https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/wildlife-permits/permit-types/wildlife-licence/native-animal/how-to-apply. Applications may take up to 40 days to be processed, however this timeframe can be reduced if you apply for your licence using Online Services. You will need to register to use this service.

If you already hold a recreational wildlife licence for controlled, commercial and recreational animals, you can seek to have the protected spiders and scorpions you already keep added to your current recreational wildlife licence by emailing palm@des.qld.gov.au.

Once your licence is approved, you will need to send Minibeast Wildlife your licence number before we can send you your tarantula.
