Detachable Penis Spider. Ahem....yes, you read it right. A spider with a special story!
The unusual name for this spider originates from the quirky behaviour of the tiny male spiders. During mating the males break off a pedipalp (one of their specialised 'feeler' appendages used for mating) and leave it locked into the female. This prevents other male spiders mating with that particular female. Despite the name originating from the male, it is the females that are best to keep as they are much longer lived and build unusual orb-webs that connect with funnel-like retreats.
Adult female body length 28mm, leg span ~ 40mm,
Females sold as juveniles with leg span 15-20mm.
