This rare and spectacular insect leaves chameleons in the dust.

No one beats these guys for camouflage. One of only two species of true leaf insects in Australia, they are so cryptic, that not much was known about the adult female until 2012, when one was found in Kuranda, QLD. The name 'Walaphyllium' translates to dancing leaf; 'Wala' from the Dharumbal language meaning 'dance' and 'Phyllium' from Greek language meaning leaf. In terms of a amazing insect pet, you can't go past the Australian Leaf insect!

Adult male 70mm, sold as juveniles. Capable of flying short distances when mature.

  • Astonishing leaf mimicry, down to the veins and imperfections of real leaves.
  • Suitable for all ages and experience levels. Easy to handle.
  • Feeds on Brush Cherry (Syzygium australe). This plant is readily available through nurseries. If using potted plants, check that they have not been treated with insecticides. If they have, they will not be suitable for use with these insects for a couple of months.
  • Captive bred through our environmentally sustainable breeding program.
  • Guaranteed to be mite and parasite free.
  • All Minibeast Wildlife animals are covered by our seven day Minibeast Guarantee and have a free downloadable Care Guide

I love my little leaves so much! Such big personalities, and they love to just chill on my hand whilst I’m watching tv

    Male Monteith Leaf Insects

Posted by Unknown on 20th Oct 2021

All the male Monteiths I ordered arrived in really good condition and were very healthy. Even with the postal delay at the moment they were packed in a way that they were able to survive the extra long delay without any issues or extra stress.
