The Dancing Leaf Insect - a true Australian leaf insect!
The Dancing Leaf Insect also known as the Australian Leaf Insect (Walaphyllium monteithi) is one of only two species of true Leaf Insects (Phylliidae) native to Australia. This Far North Queensland species is rarely seen and an incredibly camouflaged beauty of the insect world. No one beats these guys for camouflage. They are so cryptic, that not much was known about the adult female until 2012, when one was found in Kuranda, QLD. The name 'Walaphyllium' translates to dancing leaf; 'Wala' from the Dharumbal language meaning 'dance' and 'Phyllium' from Greek language meaning leaf. In terms of a amazing insect pet, you can't go past Dancing Leaf Insects!

- Suitable for all ages and experience levels. Easy to handle and makes a fascinating pet.
- Dancing Leaf Insects have a very specific food plant requirement of Brush Cherry (Syzygium australe), please ensure you have a good pesticide free source at hand before they arrive. This plant is readily available through nurseries but be aware if using potted plants, check that they have not been treated with insecticides. If they have, they will not be suitable for use with these insects for a couple of months.

i bought a little female and she shedded 2 weeks after arrival. arrived in 1 day and very impressed with the little thing. fed beautifully on the Lilly pilly i grow in my garden with is great as there is a healthy supply of food! i have bought multiple books and insects from you guys and will totally get a male ASAP.

Masters of disguise
Bought two males and two females along with a large mesh enclosure as a gift for my mother and she adores them. The cheeky things are difficult to find even when you know exactly what you're looking for. Can't imagine how challenging it would be to find these things in the wild. Great service and prompt delivery, as with my prior orders.

I ordered one of each leaf insects ( male and female). I was surprised at how small they were and perfect :-) I set up the mesh enclosure under 5 min and gently transferred them on to the leaves and they started eating after a while. After a week they seem 20% bigger already. The package came in 2 days which is fast :-)

What an amazing little creature
Fascinating little insect, my seven year old son and I have spent a long time trying to locate her among the leaves already. 'Lola' is his favourite, can't recommend highly enough. Due to the once a week shipping policy, we waited 7 business days for our order - as a first time purchaser this is my fault for not reading the shipping info page first, but maybe something to make a little more prominent?
