Minibeast Wildlife - Ethical Captive Breeder

An overwhelming favourite, the Spiny Leaf Insect is a hardy pet, easy to keep and a fascinating addition to your home or school.

As far as insect pets go, Spiny leaf insects are a winner! They have amazing camouflage, and are able to be handled gently. These captive-bred insects mainly feed on eucalyptus leaves, and can be kept in groups or on their own. As adults, the females have short, flightless wings, and the adult males have long wings and are capable of flying short distances. Females are also able to reproduce without a male!

Adult female 150mm (sold as juveniles ~30mm in body length)

  • Also known as Macleay's Spectre after their distinctive camouflage.
  • Suitable for all ages and experience levels. Great to handle!
  • Feeds on Eucalyptus leaves and much more.
  • Captive bred through our environmentally sustainable breeding program.
  • All Minibeast Wildlife animals are covered by our seven day Minibeast Guarantee and have a free downloadable Care Guide

    Gargantuan stick insect

Posted by Pat Simmons on 2nd May 2020

I've recently purchased a gargantuan stick insect and a female spiny leaf insect both of whom arrived safe and sound. I was delighted to also receive a free male spiny. My grandchildren are fascinated by these insects as am I. Thank you

We received 3 insects in total, one was a bonus which was greatfully appreciated. Unfortunately one died a day after we received them, although they were quite healthy and active when received, the packaging was great and I would purchase again from them. happy kids.

Arrived in perfect order and on time. Appreciated the follow up to ensure a plan in case she hadn't arrived before the Easter weekend. She's settling in happily.

These little guys are awesome and I can’t wait to give them yo my son for Christmas. The stick insects arrived in very good health despite the slow Christmas post and the extreme heat we have had this week. And with a bonus insect as well. Thank you mini beast wildlife. xx

Our stick insect arrived safely. When we unpacked him he was happily munching on his leaves, which were still really fresh. He’s pretty cute.

    SPINY LEAF INSECT (EXTATOSOMA TIARATUM)

Posted by Mitch mcclelland on 4th Nov 2019

The insect was in good health, however, the container was broken leaving the insect outside of its tupaware container packageing, moving freely in the box the package is meant to be shipped in. It could have been injured this way and had no access to moisture or leaves as it was in transit. Response from Minibeast Wildlife: Sorry to hear that your package was damaged - it would have been better if you had notified us of this incident via email, rather than in a review since the issue was not a result of anything we had or hadn't done. Unfortunately we have no control over how Australia Post treats packages, however we do assume them to be robustly handled and pack them accordingly; we use an excess of insulating padding to securely pack the container within the box, and include food and moisture. In over 15 years of dispatching, it is extremely rare that we have packages damaged in this way. Good to hear it still arrived in a healthy state.
